Extra Curricular

At Uplands Academy we believe that as well as giving students the knowledge they need to be successful, we also need to develop their skills. Students will learn many skills in their lessons.

They will improve their communication and team skills in drama and PE, for example. They will learn to form and test a hypothesis in science, and they will develop a strong moral code in Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) lessons and Personal Development Time (PDT), tutor time. However, there is more to education than the classroom, and we offer a full extra-curricular programme for our students.

In addition to our school programme, we also work with The National Citizenship Service to ensure that students can benefit from a nationally recognised voluntary personal and social development programme for 15 to 17-year-olds. It is funded by the Government and helps students to build the skills they need for work and life.

We offer a wide range of sporting and non-sporting clubs, societies, and trips, and we offer students the opportunity to have their ‘employability skills’ recognised. We currently also offer the Duke of Edinburgh award, and work to develop and acknowledge student achievements as they improve their leadership, organisation, resilience, initiative, and communication skills. These are the attributes that many employers have identified as being crucial to being successful in the workplace.
