SEND Information

Uplands Academy has a policy of Learning Support for all students with special educational needs, regardless of ability. As an inclusive school, all staff take responsibility for ensuring that learning is accessible to all students.

The SEND department at Uplands is committed to supporting those students who need additional or different support in their learning. Students’ learning passports, produced in collaboration with students, help teaching staff to know and respond to individuals’ needs. Our dedicated learning support team of TAs and HLTAs work to ensure that appropriate provision is made for all students. This might involve support in some timetabled lessons or one-to-one support for specific help outside of timetabled lessons e.g. for speech and language. There are also small-group interventions supporting maths, reading and literacy, social skills and emotional and mental health and well-being.

Learning Support area also provides a friendly environment, with adult support, for those who need it during unstructured times. This is before school, during break times and at lunch. Homework support is available at these times.
