We have received an update from day two of our Year 13 Geographers' incredible trip to Iceland! Our students, along with their counterparts from Beacon Academy and Geography teachers, are exploring the island's stunning geographical features. Here's the report:
"Up early to enjoy the world-famous 'Secret Lagoon' natural hot springs ahead of the crowds. Half the morning in bath-temperature water was well worth the icy walk from the changing rooms! On to Geysir, where hot water spouts from the ground to a height of about 10 metres every few minutes - a sight so spectacular that all the world's geysers are named after it. After lunch we drove on to a magnificent two-staged waterfall. Then on to another geographical bucket list - the rift valley between the giant North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, where the two continents meet. To top it all off, we had one of the clearest days for a while to enjoy these natural wonders at their best."

We are delighted to announce the continued sponsorship of Uplands Academy and Beacon Academy Equestrian Teams by Tunbridge Wells-based law firm, CooperBurnett. Since our partnership began in 2023, their generosity has played a vital role in developing a strong sense of team spirit amongst our students and supporting them to develop confidence and skills such as teamwork, discipline and resilience.
Our young riders can now represent our school in National Schools Equestrian Association events wearing kit bearing the new CooperBurnett logo, including fleece jackets and cross-country tops for the riders and saddle pads for the horses.
Some of our riders in their new kit met recently with Joseph Oates, Partner and Head of Contentious at CooperBurnett LLP, along with Sarah Strong, Partner, and her daughter. Joseph Oates said, "We are very happy to be continuing our sponsorship of the equestrian teams at Beacon Academy and Uplands Academy. It's been fantastic to follow their achievements over the past couple of years and see the team members thriving, building friendships with other students and, of course, the gorgeous horses. We also recognise the time and commitment each team manager gives to making this partnership such a success."
The equestrian teams are now preparing for a busy season of events, and with the continued backing of CooperBurnett LLP, we are excited for what lies ahead!

On Friday 7 February, our Year 10 Sports Leaders had an incredible opportunity to visit the AMEX Stadium, home of Brighton & Hove Albion FC, for a day focused on future careers in sport. The event featured inspiring talks from key speakers, as well as networking opportunities with leading sports coaching and sports science organisations, including The Brighton Foundation, Active Sussex and Brighton University.
Throughout the day, students engaged actively with industry professionals, asking insightful questions and sharing their own experiences. Mr. Doe, Head of PE praised their enthusiasm, commenting 'I was particularly impressed with the students for speaking about their own experiences and ideas in front of over 250 students and sports professionals'.
Beyond learning about various career pathways, students also took part in interactive sessions, including a fascinating sports science workshop. One highlight was the analysis of ACL injuries using biomechanics - students filmed each other performing jumping movements, then assessed their techniques to identify potential injury risks.
The event also featured stalls run by sports industry professionals, offering valuable advice on university degrees in sport, scholarships abroad, coaching opportunities in Sussex, and more. Students left the stadium with a deeper understanding of the sports job market and fresh inspiration for their future careers.
Reflecting on the day, Mr. Doe added, 'I was thoroughly impressed with the students outlook throughout the day and they represented Uplands Academy proudly wearing their Uplands Sports Leaders hoodies. All of them demonstrated the MARK values throughout the experience and hopefully took something away from the day which will motivate them as they continue their journey in the sports industry'.

Launched 10 years ago by the children's mental health charity, Place2Be, this awareness week is dedicated to equipping children and young people across the UK with the tools they need to thrive.
To support parents and carers, we're sharing a series of pre-recorded webinars covering common challenges young people may face. Each workshop provides an overview of a specific difficulty, practical tips for support, and links to helpful resources.

The best way to know whether teaching is the right career path for you is to come and experience it first-hand. At our school experience day, you will have the chance to spend time in the classroom and have an opportunity to speak with experienced staff, including Heads of Department, some Early Career Teachers and a member of the Senior Team.
The programme is open to anyone over the age of 18 who has a degree or is currently studying towards one.

On Wednesday 5 February, some of our Year 11 students had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a Positive Destinations workshop run by the East Sussex Youth Employability Service.
The session was all about helping young people make informed decisions about their future, whether that's continuing in education, starting an apprenticeship, or entering the workforce. Students explored key skills needed for different careers, received valuable advice on applying to colleges and apprenticeships, and learned about the top job sectors in East Sussex.

🎉🎓Congratulations to our Deputy Headteacher (Quality of Education), Mrs. Richards on achieving a distinction in her Postgraduate Applied Leadership and Management qualification.
Reflecting on her achievement, Mrs Richards shared: 'It was a challenging but rewarding two years, and I’ve really enjoyed both the learning process and the opportunity to apply my new knowledge to strategic work at school. Adapted especially for young performers, this musical includes favourite songs such as “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Feed the Birds”, as well as wonderful new songs by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. This marks a significant moment for Uplands Academy, as it is our first school production in several years, and our Music & Drama departments, along with the cast, are working tirelessly to create a show that will be both memorable and magical.
