Media Studies
Intent
In Media Studies, our students learn important lessons about how a wide range of media texts are generated and received so that they are well-informed consumers of media sources. They gain knowledge of feminist theory, gender performativity, post-colonialist theory and ethnicity. We consider the construction and deconstruction of stereotypes and consider objectification and oppression.
Alongside developing their own skills in writing creatively for a range of audiences and purposes, our students learn how to analyse texts produced by others and consider the impact of creative choices on audiences and readers. These skills enable students to be informed members of modern society beyond their formal education.
How our subject contributes to personal development
Through creating their own media texts, our students employ their own imagination and creativity in exploring ways that words and images combine to create meaning and they investigate the representation of moral and ethical issues in the media.
