Intent

The PE curriculum at Uplands is student-focussed. All core PE lessons offer a broad curriculum of sporting activities for students, with time for them to develop their procedural knowledge of fundamental motor skills, rules, strategies, tactics and their understanding of what healthy participation means through pillars of learning. Students are given the opportunity to analyse a range of different situations and apply their own decisions. At Uplands, all PE pupils work as individuals, in groups and in teams, developing concepts of fair play and of personal, social responsibility - enabling students to make their MARK.

We believe there is a sport or activity that everyone can enjoy and see it as our role to help them find the confidence to participate. Through taking part in physical challenges, and sometimes failing, our students learn how to be resilient and adaptable. We encourage a lifelong participation in activity and give young people the knowledge they need to lead healthy lives.

How our subject contributes to personal development

It is our intent that the young people under our care strive to be the best they can be in sport and physical activity and in addition, we aspire to pass on the psychological, cultural, and physiological benefits of a lifelong engagement in sport and physical activity.

All Uplands PE students strive to make their MARK by being motivated, ambitious, resilient, and knowledgeable.  They will study a wide variety of practical activities, both traditional sports and the more alternative or modern variations. The PE department strives to ensure students develop a love of learning and physical activity and how this will impact their lives both physically, mentally, and socially.
