WW1 Battlefields Trip 2024

On Friday 6 December, fifty of our Year 9 students embarked on an unforgettable WW1 Battlefields Tour.

After an early start to catch Le Shuttle to Calais the tour began at Aubers Ridge Battlefield, where students laid a wreath to honour the soldiers, 93% of those who fought in the battle have no known grave. The group then visited the Hooge Crater museum, where they warmed up with hot chocolate and participated in a moving re-enactment of the 1914 Christmas Truce. The day concluded, with chocolate shopping and a poignant visit to The Menin Gate, Ypres, a memorial to the missing soldiers of WW1.

Mrs. Underdown, Head of History, commented, 'It was a day of reflection, learning, and remembrance that brought history to life for our students'.

We also received some lovely feedback from our guide, 'as a retired teacher and a guide for a number of years, all students behaved extremely well and showed a real interest throughout the day. They asked and answered a variety of questions and were superb during our act of remembrance at Le Touret. It was a pleasure to guide them. Many thanks too for the contribution of your staff who clearly have a good working relationship with the students'.

A big thank you to Anglia Tours for helping to organise such a memorable trip for our students.
